The new gym that built by Dunraven School is made by Shipping container are located in South London. It’s designed by architecture firm Scabal, as the world’s first gym of its kind, the team of designers carefully chose materials that would provide for a fun and bright environment for the school children to enjoy.
And guess what, this gym only need three days to completed. But not only that, the best part is that this building reduced overall costs by a third opting to go prefab over a traditional facility built-on-site. But its still used dynamic eco-friendly design idea for the building.
The gym uses a wall of containers to hold changing rooms, storage and offices, while at the core of the box arrangement is a spacious gym floor for the kids to get some serious physical education done.

Also by using four primary colors, lots of light, and fun details like zigzag cutouts for observation deck, Scabal easily broke the mass down to a more manageable level that also inspires fun.
The gym width 8,200 square meter and uses green material for the almost of the stuctured, including reused shipping containers and walls of translucent polycarbonate.
It’s not a surprise, since the school has a tradition to build a green building, and for the gym is no different, even employing a rainwater collection system for the campus-wide reclaimed water system.

That is indeed a creative use of shipping containers. I’m curious as to the load bearing ability of the containers on the 2nd floor of the gym building with the large cutouts in the side. I would suspect that the amount of weight it’s able to hold would be greatly diminished by cutting out the side as they’ve done.
