The Little Playhouse With Net Zero Ocean Adventure Lab

The Ocean Adventure Lab goes above and beyond the requirements for a play house, utilizing green and recycled material in the construction as well as making it an fun and educational place for you kid to learn about the ocean. Ocean Adventure Lab along with six other amazing playhouses will be auctioned off for charity on September 10th in Orange County.
The designer that is LPA Inc. and Turner Construction weren’t kidding around when the designed and built a net zero playhouse for this year’s Project Playhouse fundraiser for HomeAid in Orange County.
It designed with help from the Ocean Institute in Dana Point in order to make sure they included all the necessary elements of a good oceanographer’s lab. Included inside are lab coats, a working wave tank, microscopes, oceanography books, a working projector featuring underwater sea creatures, and a Playstation 2.

The “little playhouse” is also incredibly green, and was awarded an honorary certification by the USGBC Orange County chapter for all its greenness. It was constructed from locally sourced, rescued and recycled content materials and features a “truth wall” that shows the inner structure made of composite wood, 100% wool insulation and the pipes.
LED and energy efficient lighting were used as well as Trex decking and the exterior is landscaped with native, drought-tolerant vegetation. A solar system on the roof provides all the power the little lab needs and makes it the first ever net zero playhouse in the fundraiser in 19 years.
